The new text rendering engine breaks on Chinese and Japanese, especially in Chinese. Also did the music get changed?

Here’s what the Chinese looks like on the new version’s rendering:

And here’s what the Japanese text looks like in the new version’s rendering:

Here’s from the older version on Newgrounds:

Hi, thank you. for the report we will check it out, and yup the music changed

(1 edit)

Was the music changed for stylistic reasons? If it wasn’t a licensing issue, I recommend asking the composer of the old songs to publish them somewhere. I especially loved the chiptune one, but the orchestra track was good too. I know Splatoon’s OST showed the E3 tracks.

Also, the bug makes the text unreadable, because it essentially “cuts up” the characters. You could just use the old method if the game is set to Chinese or Japanese and the new mode for everything else, likely via IF statements.

Hi i think it should be solved let me know about anything
about the chiptune one you mean the main theme?

Specifically the first cutscene theme.

Also it’s now fixed, and even better than before because the text does not go out-of-bounds.

Oh right you can found it here https://opengameart.org/content/amber-forest

Hello, creator of UnifontEX here: I absolutely LOVE this game, especially the general aesthetic of it. The music is AMAZING, and totally like the chiptune stuff I love (I’m also the maker of a libre chiptune instrument here on Itch and elsewhere).

The controls are a bit hard to master, but honestly, what I find most attractive about the game is the aesthetic. I give you full permission to do whatever you wish with UnifontEX. It also supports many more languages besides the ones here, and it even supports quite a lot of symbols, including emoji.

I’m finally glad people are using my content, and honestly, I find your game charming, and a great first use of the font.

Also the Flipnote-style intro is amazing!

Hi! I'm so glad you liked our game and also feel honored that you found it! Your font was really useful in our localization process

Could you provide a link to that chiptune instrument? We would love to check it out!

Thank you for your reply! I welcome people using my content because I enjoy helping people. I wrote a long documentation about the font on its Github page (http://stgiga.github.io/UnifontEX ), and I DO mean long. It details stuff like use cases, notable characters/ranges supported, as well as some backstory on development. As with the itch.io version (and the other places I host it at besides Fontspace), there is a large selection of font formats available.

The chiptune instrument can be found here, and it is usable for both 8-bit and 16-bit music and sounds:

None of my projects cost money, and I honestly have basically no limits on what can be done with them. Just don’t be a bigot or use them in anything the average person would consider to be “nauseating”. Otherwise, go wild with my content. Oh and no, I didn’t spend years of my life making only two things. I think that’s the best way to put it.

La inflacion puede complicar la la vida... Jajaja

10/10 addictive as taking a coffee in the morning ( currently at day 10 )

Pancha needs coffee but I think she drinks it at the night? Not sure
